Broom Upgrade Empty Broom Upgrade

I purchased a broom upgrade and the amount of chips I had decreased but the upgrade to my boom doesn't appear to have worked.

I have no star next to the picture (like i got with the watering can).
Pens are dirty before 7 days are up.

Also after getting the upgrade if I try to go into my House the game locks up with the star on the screen.
