How do I get rid of what looks like poo?

Only started playing yesterday on my new Ipad. Loved Animal Crossing. I found little piles of what I think was poo lying around (don't have animals yet) and stupidly picked it up. So I now have 3 in my stash. How do I get rid of it? Obviously if I had left it on the ground I could have bought a broom, but now it's in my inventory taking up a place. Any ideas? Is there somewhere you can chuck rubbish? Even tried to dig it into the dirt, but no go.

Stupid me, was looking at the missions and recognized the 3 black things I thought were poo as being the 3 cannonballs. I knew I was looking for cannonballs, just hadn't realised there were 3 or I would have caught on earlier.
